had a walk down to the beech at blackhall this after noon for some fresh water for mas worms to see a bloke fishing on the point and a bloke fishing underneath it you would of thought that by now especially with whats happend over the last couple week people would of learnt its not safe to fish under/ontop of cliffs it just aint worth the risk

We could see two lights on Cullercoats south pier on Friday night, the sea wasn't massive but you wouldn't have got me on there if you promised me a couple of doublers, all it takes is one wave or a couple of big swells coming in. It can happen, look at Jonny's post for anyone that doubt's it, and there is nothing to hang on to either.

But people will continue to do it no matter what anyone on here says I just hope we have no more reports of tragedy's from our shores.

i was lucky got washed of cullercoats pier about 15yrs ago in big swell,i was the last man off in big sea n the wave we was all dreadin got me, so damm lucky t have got away with it you dont realise how scary the sea can be the pure raw power untill it happens t u, have so much respect for sea now n that pier still scares the **** out of me even in a small sea at low water t this day

Pleased your still here to tell the tale steppeydog, and your right about not realising until it happens to you. I think most fishermen have a story about the day that they got away.

I fished that pier a long time ago but during the day and in a small sea, it wasn't long after I saw someone fishing it in the wrong conditions and it scared the hell out of me. There is nothing that could get me to fish from there now, even if I was fit enough to do so.

It's just a pity that it takes a shock to show us the dangers of the sea, some poor people don't get that second chance.

Have to hold my hand up and admit that I fell off Rocky Island breakwater in the early 90's, was a dark and bitterly cold January night, had got up on the top and it was quite slippy, not really sure why I'd decided to get up on the top of it at the end but thankfully the sea wasn't running and I ended up in the water next to the ladders..... I can tell you that it's a flipping long walk back from Seaton Sluice to New Hartley when you're soaked to the skin at that time of year in the early hours.... even longer when you're zig-zagging your way home because you're still plastered from a long night of over-indulging despite the soaking
