Somebody help me !

After spending many a year fruitlessly chucking lead, worm, crab and anything else i could get my hands on into the sea for very little return i have decided to give freshwater fishing a go.

My Mrs wants to go as well so can anyone suggest a cracking place for new starters. Someone mentioned a fish farm up Alnwick way ?

Try the Fly, don't be scared - plenty places to fish although not quite so many during the winter. Ladies love it but can be a bit too good though. Get a casting lesson and away you go.

got to agree with charlie. book a lesson for the pair of you, you could even combine it with a days fishing. heard some great reports about chatton(haven't had chance to fish it me sel yet like) or there's caistron lake that i've fished 2 or 3 times and love. both should be no more than 30 mins from you.......welcome to the dark side

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the clobber's cool as out as well, beats a minging flourescent floatation suit or a pair of england running shorts and Dave Angel shades (co***e angling uniform of course )

I go to work in my gear (I work in a lake, joking)

It's a great way of angling though, loads to learn but none of it rocket science - also comes into it's own in the warmer months when most NE sea angling's a bit slack from the shore.

I would give Higham lakes in ponteland a shot mate, the lads there are very helpful. Either that or go down to Sharpley and book some lessons with Terry Woods also known as Yours truly on here.

Caistron is stunning, but it's also huge, and I've only ever managed to catch on the boat there.

Chatton, haven't actually tried yet but have not heard a bad report yet about the place. My sons best mate fishes there regularly (he's 11) and they always offer lots of help to beginners

South Linden is a good start point as well, not a massive pond, but situated in lovely surroundings and well landscaped. Find the South end is more productive and the fish are good scrappers.

Chatton is a grand place to start your fishing career, there is ample room for casting and if you give Hardy's a ring, Bob Smith will duly oblige with casting instructions.
Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
