sonik sk3 14ft

I have the 13ft sk3 and the 14ft sk4 good rods, sk4 is better though but bite detection is better on sk3. Rods not popular though through reports of snapping, my sk3 snapped only because i was using it incorrectly, but was replaced un warrantee.

Had one for over a year and its been great mate , it was the 13 feet ones that had the problem with snapping , give it a go and judge for ya sell mate , 14 feet takes a bit getting used to if you've never used one , just slow ya cast down .
If ya look after ya gear it will serve you well , any rod thrown about on rocks and piers will snap , I think it's because there a cheaper rod that people don't care for them , if they where £350 they wouldn't get hoyed around + wouldn't snap .

Have fun mate and tight lines

My mates 14' sk3 snapped first chuck, straight out of the shop. However he got a new tip under warranty and that has been fine since. I got the 13' and have had no bother with it.

although you have a sk3......... i got the sk 4

"just been out with my new rod.... a sonik SK4 (SK4SR010) 13' 6" 4-6oz and was well impressed, the build quality and finish are excellent, had a few overhead thumps first just to get the feel of it using a 5oz lead and reel in the high position. it loaded up quite easily recovered well, tryed a cast along the beach into a slight wind and paced it out at about 145 yds. next tried pendulum with reel in high position and it felt really good,i could feel the rod load up on the rotation quite easily, after a few more casts, i found that by slowing the cast down the rod performed better paced it along the beach at about 170 yds,(clipped down rig used)..also tried otg and it performed admirably....so time to fish with it...used a clipped down pulley rig with pennel the bait was runnydown tipped with peeler first , the beach is relatively clean but kelp beds and gulley's are about 120 yds out, the sea itself was not quite flat but had a few small breakers for about the first 40 yds then the deeper water starts
first cast was about 100yds.. just before the kelp ...the rod stood still in the tripod, with very little movement from the breakers....anyway there was a small knock then another which the tip showed brilliantly, this resulted in a yting about half a pound ....rod christened on 1st cast..brill....next cast i put it a bit further just into the kelp, within minutes a distinctive rattle and i picked the rod up and held it ready,...knock knock...strike..next a small codling of about 1 3/4lb....the bite was felt easily holding the rod....third cast further still..right into the kelp, but no bites..hooked the kelp on retrieve....but managed to pull out...the rod handled it easily..only the top 3ft - 4ft giving... with plenty of beef in the middle part....so far so good ...well impressed for the price..cant wait to really give it some stick later this week....will post details
cheers

the above rod is still my main beach rod although i have used it on mixed / heavy ground and cliffs....it coped but not as well as a more heavier suitable rod would....

it has had some hammer for nearly 5 winter seasons and 3 summers after smoothounds and rays on the holderness and lincs coast as well as a couple of trips north of the border after summer pollock and wrasse....

the condition of the rod is still in good condition.... the odd ring has a little rust around the foot ...but thats down to me not cleaning or drying my rods after a session...

the action of the rod has not softened at all... well i cant feel if it has... it still performs for me... and thats all that matters... i feel comfortable using it... and know how much stick to give it....

personally i love it... all i can say is ... slow your cast down and get the timing of your cast right and it will work for you...

good luck and i hope you have as many pleasing outings as i have using a sonik rod...
cheers

I have a sk4 5-7oz, 14ft and have to say i love it to bits. Pretty stiff rod to load and cast if you are a lighter/smaller gent, or not used to heavy rods, but i have pulled up cod to 8lb on the pier and just a nice J curve, no dramas at all, other than hand balling through the eyes with the rod wedged between my legs! Its great for pelting out BIG baits too, easy getting the same distance as other using worm baits, compaired to a couple of squid and half a side of mackerel... bit tricky using clipped pully rigs with your bait is heavier than the wieght... But the rod loads, and casts the bulky stuff out exceptionally well!

Good rods, good money... bad rep... but i swear by them... haters will hate :) haha
