...since my 3rd reboot of PC - I have now lost the all PC sound...this is despite the system telling me everything is OK

anyone any ideas?

I have re-installed drivers/updated drivers
I have also uninstalled/re-installed hardware

how do I re-select the on board sound without removing the PCI soundcard?

Any help is greatly appreciated...

(maybe I will buy a Mac one of these days)

Tony,
if you have on board sound enabled in the BIOS then it will override any sound card (a check for this would be to plug you speakers into the on board jacks)

To disable the on board sound and thus free the sound card you must do a re-boot and then enter the BIOS whilst starting up (usually by pressing del key at boot but you should see the message on screen) then in the set-up screen if you look around you will see the on board sound chip options make this disabled then save and exit and do a full re-boot, this shoupld release your sound card

I think ....... :) :) :)

Cheers Norman

had a scoot around the BIOS and did that etc - no joy...:(

So after extensive Googling I took the plunge and decided it was a hardware conflict - so I removed the PCI Soundcard and hey presto - back in business :)

Then had a mini trauma with the printer drivers...but everything seems to be working OK now (until the next time:rolleyes:)
