Souter Point Areas

Having never fished these marks, i've walked along the top of the cliffs a few times trying to see where ppl might be fishing. But everytime i go i never see anyone fishing. Do you fish these marks on the clifftops or is it possible to fish them on the bottom, as i can't see how you would get up and down when the tide starts flooding.

The majority of the fishing is done from the top of the cliffs, the points on various headlands usually. You can access the bottom but its a long walk from Marsden Bay end not as bad from the Wherry end but its only accessible for a short time on a big tide.

No not really matey, a good cast helps but you would be best going along the cliffs at low water and having a good look for the holes as some are just a short cast. It looks different when you go down on the bottom aswell though because the holes and gullies are deep and the rocks are like caravans!

Thanks again,
Great advice, i'll take a look on the low tide and see if i can see where the deep holes are, but excuse my ignorance, what do gullies look like.

hi mate, gullies are just deeper areas that water runs through, probs better to describe them as channels.
Fish use them like roads rather than going over the top of flat rocks and becoming a target themselves for other predators. Stick your bait in a gulley or a hole and fish will find it on the way through.

some great marks along the cliff tops mate, had plenty of decent fish but have only ever fished it at night... if your planning on that make sure you have a good look at the area first and go with someone else, its not a spot to get caught out, better safe than sorry and all that. As already said, short casts into the gullys or holes will see you catch. I rarely cast over about 50-75yds and from the cliff tops thats easy peasy!!
