South Shields Pier - 02/06/11

I was spinning before the first gate from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, I caught nothing (the previous day I had 2 sandeels. I only saw a couple of flatties caught in that time (on bait).

There was dozens of people fishing the whole length of the pier. Most of the people coming off were saying there were a few fish caught coalies/flatties etc but very little mackerel and those that were caught were caught in a very short space of time by a few people.

Many were complaining of crossed lines and overcrowding at the end. Unfortunately a couple of jet skis were playing very close to the pier for a couple of hours also.

On the plus side it was a stinking hot glorious day to be outside fishing!

I was at the end today from 7am - 5pm with the tyne being dredged maxkerel tend to not like murky water so as soon as the mucky water was sweeping round the pier it was chasing the mackerel with it and thats when they were being caught few on a morning then bowt 11 am lads were coming in with full houses (5)
Didnt see any flattys come in at all and the coalies were small apart from the ones a cuple of us had on a morning

Unlucky on the blank mate I was on the end with my son from 6am and it was quiet with the odd coley and even a cod coming in on the daylites, then the mackerel came on around 9ish. There was a 3.5lb salmon caught next to the blocks about 10am, lovely day but some of the kids OMG.

I heard one lad caught a mackerel said to his mate what should I do with it, should I keep it, should I give it to that bloke over there, should I kill it. Then he bopped it on the head and put it on the floor next to him, this was about 11am and those on the pier will know how hot it was, dunno what he done with it in the end like but it sounded pretty senseless to me. It was time to head off then as the beer bags were showing up in numbers lol.
