South Shields this morning

Got there at 4 AM left just after 5. Walked up from the gates to just short of the 44 having a cast every 20 yards or so. Kept a couple of mackerel ( makes me sick when people keep bag fulls) llovely size and put about 16-17 back after unhooking them with forceps and not touching them at all. Seemed to get away ok. Loads of salmon jumping and even saw one tail walking . I tried a shallow diving plug near the orange pilot thing and got a helluva bang off something which I missed. Stunning sunrise- it's gonna be gorgeous today.

Well done on the fish, lovely morning to be out and nice to see the fish going back instead of being dumped in a carrier bag at the end of the pier like some people.... pity you missed the fish on the plug...

Well done mate. I did the exact same thing yesterday morning 5am and blanked lol On the way off I had to step over a pile of rotten mackie on the rocks just up from the hole in the wall stinking and buzzing with flies. I can't understand some people.

Dopey trolls springs to mind.

Nice session mate, the best thing to first thing on a summers morning, can't beat it, and no avoiding daylites being swung around.

If you see me walking down the pier with a bag full its for my winter bait nowt wrong with that:rolleyes:

Fair enough if your just fishing for them the once. Keeping 50 though- say 2 a session in the winter, that's 25 sessions. One bag fulls enough for anyone. Prefer to have a few sessions and keep a few each time myself but I suppose there's no law against it.

i took 60 on saturday...

i froze some for winter baits, some cleaned and boned for summer barbie,s and a couple for the guy next door. i also cooked 8 fish the same day.

sunday i kept another 20.

i like 60 pairs of fillets frozen for winter baits about 20 pairs for the barbie and i eat them right through the season.

once my stocks are filled up i only take the odd few but again once stocks are full i will not purposely fish for mackerel but spend my time chasing bass or mullet instead.

totally agree with mad as a fish if you are taking a carrier bag full and using it for winter bait cant see any problem and if you want to take them and share with family and friends as i do cant see a problem either but still well done on your catches and your releases
