Well fished south shields last night got 5 fish, 2 dad ,1 gurnard ,1 plaice ,and codling 2 and a half pound there was only 3 of us there but it was a good nite

Spot on mate, are gurnard caught off there regularly? av been there the day been a lovely day weather wise, and caught bout 14 sand eels but that was it, dont think anyone else was catching out else.

Thats the only gurnard ive ever caught it was only 6 ins long

well done then mate, never seen one caught but reading some old posts, seems quite a few get caught off there in summer.

i remember catching red gurnard off roker pier in the late eighties one summer. seemed to catch them alongside spanish (horse) mackeral. If memory serves me it was a particularly pleasant start to the year weather wise aswell.

got a red gurnard bout 1.5lb a few year back . Paul Haigue took a photo of it a,ll sort out to see if can figure a way to put on site.

Yeah, they used to be a fairly common occurrence during the summer
