South West Scotland....

Been away from sea fishing for a while now but next week heading over to Auchenlarie on holiday & intending on dusting my gear off & taking it with me. I used to regularly fish Whithorn but not fished Auchenlarie area & would appreciate any advice. Ideally would like to find a spot where my kids aged 6yrs & 3yrs could have a chance to fish safely & sucessfully to start them off whilst keeping them keen. Expecting their new rods in the post tomorrow, they've been asking to go fishing for ages now. Location, best baits & tactics much appreciated. Hoping to do some fishing on my own & would like to bag a bass if possible....read numerous old posts but nothing recent. Thanks

As this is your first post and Immediately asking about about catching bass I doubt anyone will give you a decent answer mate.... Bass anglers are a suspicious bunch  get the kids to hit the local beaches catching loads of flatties. They will love it....

Ok thanks mate, I'm more interested in the kids catching a few fish than I am bagging up. I'll be doing a few dawn & dusk beach sessions around Luce Bay I think, read as much as I could find on the internet. Might take the kids round Kirkcudbright estuary if theres somewhere easy accessible, as you say for the flatties. Thanks for taking the time to reply

I personally never share bass marks on an open forum post for obvious reasons and I'd encourage others to go along the same lines...always happy to share via PM to genuine forums members of course.

That said Luce Bay is a big place and I think its common knowledge the bass are there so you wont be going far wrong. If your just after some sport Ryan Bay will usually give you plenty doggies on bait and also macky from the piers -good fun for the kids. When I go up if it’s a crap day weather wise I have a shot off Cairnryan (not the pier) for doggies and I’ve never failed off there – loads of the buggers. I recommended the redundant petrol station about half a mile from the old pier at high water.

Thanks again, won't be taking the kids as far over as that so will try local to Auchenlarie site & hope they catch a few little fish to keep them keen

Biggest hypocrite award goes too………………

I think NESA members are good at sharing marks, I’ve never been told to sod off by anyone.
Anyone who reads my posts / knows me will tell you I am an open book and believe in transparency - although I’d recommend leaving it a couple days before reporting on a shore caught big fish. I often volunteer accurate and genuine marks. I like others have seen some ridiculous situations when bass marks have been shared and then almost immediately flooded by certain people / netters.

Aye i'd agree with the above, sharing marks goes on a lot here but if people want to keep stuff to themselves that's fine too, for obvious reasons.

Hope you get your bass :)

I understand if you want to keep your marks to yourself until you learn a bit more about a person, thats fair enough. I'm not a netter, I don't mackerel bash in trackies, drinking fosters on shields pier & dumping my litter. I am strictly a catch & release person, flyfished for a number of years. Help run a shoot & therefore have a good understanding of conservation. I'll take my chances with the bass but would still appreciate advice from anyone who has fished within 10 miles of Auchenlarie that can advise me on a comfortable place to take my kids fishing with a decent chance of success.....thanks
