Spinning around Marsden

Had a walk along the coast on tuesday evening stopping at various spots to do some spinning

The water was crystal clear and being lower than the cliffs there was no wind

After a pleasant couple of hours i ended up with this

Just after this a fish of about 4 lb jumped clean out of the water not 10 yards in front of me. Overall a very enjoyable evening.

The rain has arrived I was thinking of joining you but it's a bit wet out there at the moment so the Leas may be muddy and the water brown. Think I may do the pier instead with some bait.

ive noticed that you lads fishing this area are all using spinners.

have you not tried deep spinning?

use either a jelly or sandeel.

with a light lead and single hook you will be able to fish tight to the rocks and week where the fish are hiding with less risk of snagging.

i sure you will get more fish.

Dabcatcher..... I know in theory that sounds good..... but for some reason it really doesnt work for me fishing that area.... virtually every fish i have ever had around there is on a plain old zenith spinner! No idea why though lol.... trust me, I have tried an awful lot of different stuff lol

Fished the rocks just south of Frenchmans Bay tonight (think it's Johnsons) 6.30 till 9. Ended up with 4 mackeral and a small pollock on the spinner and a flounder on a float rod. I did try a couple of jellys with no success so reverted back to 40 grm spinner. Mackeral came right on high water.

I reckon I've put a good 40 to 50 hrs fishing Soft Plastics along the Leas this summer over 1-2 hr sessions and various states of tide.

I've used: Sidewinder Eels, Storm shads, various Senkos, Slug-gos, X-Layers, Sakura sandeels, Ecogear aqua milfies, etc, etc. Most of these have been tried rigged both normally and weedless too, through the kelp, bouncing and crawling off the bottom, in and out of knooks and crannies! And I'm failing to find the fish.

The only success I've had on soft plastics is using the Marukyu Power Isome worms and Ecogear Power Shirasu and Grass Minnows, they really are good, especially for the micro-species. I'm still trying with the others because I'm positive they'll come good eventually and it's probably patience and technique letting me down.

Without a doubt Spinners and Hard Plastics (plugs & poppers) have been doing the damage and totally outfished the others for me this Summer, especially along that area.
