want to take my 7 year old spinning blyth pier gets a bit busy anybody know any safe marks on any rocks not to far to travel looking between lynemouthh and north shields thanks lads mick

i used both last year when i could get out had loads of sandeels off the brakewater but this year gona try floating/spinning off the rocks for pollock

Mick, just park near the Kings Arms, walk over the little footbridge and along the path. You will see the breakwater to the left and there are some steps that will take you onto the Sumps just outside the breakwater.

Jim.

Try the pipe below the rex hotel in Whitley bay at low water. Coalies, pollock, plaice etc in the coming months.:thumbup:

or walk around the pub and down the back of the hill

The north becons can be canny. Decent dry rocks, fairly flat and can get mackerel and maybe the odd bass

Was just about to suggest the same place. Had mackreal, coalies and pollock from here. Never had a bass yet tho :(

Also the pipe at Lynemouth has loads of coalies but maybe a bit tough of a climb over the boulders for a 7yr old. Excellent shot tho!

It possibly is too early Mick but the main thing to take into consideration is whether the sea is clear or not. As you are'nt using bait there won't be any smell so you need the water to be clear enough for the fish to find the bait without smell. Vibration of what ever you are using will be part of it but the clear water is very important.

cheers jim looking forward to it i have been to mull a few times its great on the float the bairn would love it but its a bit dodgy for him getting down to the marks so loking for some were closer to home :)

got 2 agree with the beacons m8 but just on the point closer 2 the south end, big mackies & i've had pollock to 5lb on spinners & also crab baits.

if fishing the rocks at sluice behind the breakwater, watch out going down the stairs as these rocks are very slippy, hard to walk on with no gear. try fishing the rocks on the headland behind the kings arms at low tide (bigger tides are better) and these rocks will be alot safer for a 7 year old, if fishing here it would be just as worth going to whitley pipe and surounding rocks, produces some good fish and is safe, low tide spot(bigger tides better) but be carefull if there is a bit of a sea on.

If you go to the rocks behind the Kings, watch the climb down, it can be a bit iffy especially the last drop down onto the rocks themselves and yes the rocks next to the breakwater are VERY slippy. If you try the breakwater itself I'd recommend an early morning high tide at dawn.
