SS Pier Lure Fishing New PB 03/08/2012

I headed down the pier this morning for first light with my spinning rod. First up was the good old trusty Zenith minnow but with the hook changed for a larger size 2 treble (I find the standard hooks are too small and can lose fish). First cast was about 3.55am and still fairly dark. About ten minutes later I felt a tap on the rod and connected with the first fish of the day a nice little pollack 42cm long weighing 1lb 9oz. Not much else happening for the next hour or so, not even any mackerel, then I lost my spinner to a snag so fitted a 4" redgill. First cast and I felt my line tighten up and I thought "is that another snag?" then it moved. Fish on. A good one too. I managed to bring it in to the side and my light rod was bent over double as I reeled it up the pier wall. A lovely pollack and a personal best for that species at 50cm 2lb 10oz beating my previous PB by 3oz, also the biggest fish I have ever caught on a lure from the shore. Well pleased with that one. Packed in about 7am, only the two fish but two nice ones .
