S'Shields Beach

Guys, the missus is wanting to head down to the big beach at South Shields tomorow to catch some rays so I was thinking of taking down a rod and plonking a few maccy strips out in the breakers..... where is the best part of the beach to fish and what kind of fish are taken off the beach? I would assume it should have a few flattys and stuff, anything else?

Don't know much about Shields beach but tell your lass she'll need the heavy gear out if she's hoping to land a ray or two.

theres often a few bass caught off big beach,usually last light or during darkness mate,if you fish near trow rocks theres normally plenty whitin there on a flat sea

I've tried next to trow rocks a few times in the summer when wife and grandkid with me. Never ever had a touch whether low or high water. Just seems to shallow to me but like I say this was summer and I was just ledgering worms. I've seen anglers fishing near the pier end of the beach a few times like.

I fished trow quarry once myself at high tide and blanked but again that was this summer, got to make sure there's no trawlers out that side of the pier if fishing close to the pier end of the beach.

I have seen alot of anglers fishing along by trow quarry/rocks at low tides so stuff must be catching, though what I have no idea. It does look like a good bass spot imo I must try again there.

Theres a few Flounders to be had at either end of the beach,even when it is flat.
They can be very close,sometimes in a foot of water.Best bait,rag tipped with macky.
With these massive tides i would fish 2 hours either side of low water,or you will get sick of moving your gear when the tide is running.

When fishing the beach I normally fish at the end (pier side) and pick up a couple a flatties, also heard it's sometimes good for bass

As been mentioned whiting to be had after dark at the trow rocks end my mate had a couple of good coalies just under two pounds each a couple of weeks ago - really nice beach to fish
