hi guys. could not believe what happened yesterday morning at st peters basin. rod doubled over and thought im into a nice cod????? nope. couldnt believe it. a 4LB 2ft long sea trout caught on mackeral. my PB fish. anyone else ever caught anything like that lately????????? will upload a pic asap :)

I was on south shields pier in the summer when a lad from nesa caught a 4.5lb salmon on a set of daylights

It looks like a kelt; a salmon in poor condition after breeding and on its way back to the sea to recover. It’s illegal to keep the salmon out, of season, and in its coloured or kelt stage, and if you don’t have a salmon fishing licence. It probably is carrying a few maggots too. If caught, they should be carefully returned for the reasons above, and they’re not fit to eat.
 
the blood was from the 4/0 hook deep in its mouth. i did my best to remove the hook and put it back best i could. the fish was alive and very active wen put back. thanx for the info lads much apreciated
 
I think that it's a Seatrout, the square tail and thick "wrist" at the base of the tail point to it being a Seatrout.

Yup looks like a sea trout to me, when do they start turning up normally? For some reason I've got it in my head that they head into spawn around April
