I have this switch to add to my boat the outboard is elec start
& has a start & stop separate switches on the outboard itself.
Thing is the switch I'm wanting to add only has 3 wires
And the start has 2 & stop has 2
One of the 3 wires on the switch must be earth with other 2 live to start & stop ( hope I'm making sense) can this be added to my engine?

I’m not too clear on the set-up from your description but if I read it right, the switch you bought has three wires.

If that’s right it could be that wire 1 is the positive supply from the battery. Wire 2 could be fed from wire 1 once the switch is pressed. If it is latching i.e. stays connected after you stop pressing the switch it could be used as the supply to the coil/DI depending on your set-up.

Wire 3 could be from a non-latching switch to feed the starter solenoid.

Can you check to see which connections make and break when you press the switch?

If this is right???? If I join the red & green wire on start switch it fires up engine
Can't check the stop until daylight tomorrow but if I remember right I had to join black & coloured wire to stop

Is this the info you requested?
Electrics isn't my strong point & i kind of hoped it would be a easy connect wire to wire sort of job

Sorry Tony it looks like I cannot help you with this, though your description makes perfect sense now with the pictures – that black wire was hiding in the first pic.

You’re right that it should be easy to plug the switch in and it will work – it is designed to fit into a wiring harness and do just that. Unfortunately without the harness or loom it will take a bit of working out what needs to connect to what.

Why do you need to fit the new switch, is there a problem with the existing start button? The dark patch on wires in the photo could just be grime or could be a result of the wire breaking down and overheating causing problems.

Not sure what's what
Everything is working fine but just being fussy & want a switch up beside steering etc

I think on the new switch the black is obviously earth with each of the other 2 live to stop & start.
Might have a little fiddle on today if I can find a voltmeter in the van

the yellow and red wire might be your interlock to stop it starting in gear. the blk/yellow your kill switch, purple your warning horn if fitted,
