Still plenty codlings

With the very poor tides my usual marks were all out of the question so I headed to a mark I havent fished in years.

I was worried I had missed the best of the seas over the weekend. Things were slow at first with only a small coalie and rockling to show for my efforts. Around half tide I picked up the first codling.

Shortly followed by another

Then this very stunning mottled codling came in

It was even mottled in its dorsal fins.

Over the next couple of hours I managed another 5 out before it went quiet, taking my total to 8, of which these 5 were kept for the table

As I was taking that final picture I heard my rod clatter in the stand, looking up the rod tip was bouncing away. I struck into what felt like a better fish and after a short scrap, these came in

Both size and they must have been playing tug of war with my pennel rig when I struck :D I released them both and having no bait left I called it a night.

Ended up with 10 sized codling, so not a bad night at all.

I fully understand that, having 3 young children of my own. However, I still get out when I can and learn something new from every trip.

For those in the same boat all I can offer you is to get out when the conditions are right to fish, and not just going out for the hell of it. I know sometimes its nice to just go out when you feel like it, but if it isn't during ideal conditions - you will always struggle.
