Finished work and headed straight down the boat, after 20mins at sea i wished i had just went to bed....rought sea and i mean rough along with a gale force 7 wind and 2knot drift made it a waste of time.

Ended up with a few mackerel, a herring, 2 coalie and 1 size codling, never went far from the piers due to the wave size.

Next 2 days doing other things i think...MAY been total wash out for fishing.

Until the bank holiday weekend thou, 5 days off :)

Tough luck at least you tried. Must be very frustrating when you own your own boat and all the expense that goes with it and mother nature isnt playing fair.

Another week and the seas will be flat and the breeze gently whispering in from a warm inland , the mackerel will be here in their millions accompanied by monstrous cod , ling and pollock (and maybe even a haddock or two :))
Oh , and my boat will be serviced and ready to go catch em;)

Big Thank You to Richy (Northeast1) for the invitation to fish onboard Stingray:). Unfortuneatly thats were the good news ends:( Mother Nature was the winner today:mad:, so NOT such a Lovely Day Out after all.
Cheer's Richy.

I wish it was that simple Norman lol 1 god day at sea for the month of May weather wise..its a killer.

Having a rest this weekend, its fishable this weekend but fishing is fun and when its rough, fast drift and wind blasting you its not fun so rather get some jobs done..still loads of fish out there and the mackerel here at least :)

We always get a bad month, last year it was July..this year May...just spoilt with April and 40-70 fish a trip...sure it will change for the better soon, 3 weeks of leave waiting to be booked in for when the weather improves.

im finished for the season june 10th anyway
[work commitments untill august 15th],
then family holiday, then more work..... may get out sept/oct, got to make the most of now....

Always think of it this way, if you don't try then ..

The long range forcast is for low winds starting wednesday. Fingers crossed.

At least you got a few and you got out.

I was just saying to our lass how lucky we are to have a boat and get out there time to time.

We were looking at the Roker web cam and could see a little boat and said that was us yesterday. :yltype:

..just spoilt with April

You’re right we’ve been spoilt not just with the fishing but the weather in April too.

We managed a session after work on Tuesday and had the same problem as you with a drift so fast we could have overtaken some of the sailing boats. We tried a couple of close wrecks then the rough ground close in, seeking shelter under the cliffs at Souter. When the wind dropped to hurricane force we had a last blast out to the dirty wreck where we were knocked all over by the short sharp waves as they raced us out to sea.
Haddocks from Scotland saved us from blanking but only just.

The fish finder showed some strong mid-water echoes covering areas of thirty or forty feet in diameter, possibly dense shoals of bait fish. Anyone else seen them?
