Well set off at 7.30am and the sea looked fantastic with no wind at all, myself and el_sid onboard today. First stop just outside the piers for some mackerel but we struggled and only got 2 and 7 sandeels so off we went and tried a few close wrecks.

After about 8 drifts i had 2 ling and el_sid 1 around the 6lb mark, we moved off again and hit into a large shoal of mackerel so landed about 30 for bait and set about the wrecks again.

Found it slow and only took a couple more ling off a couple of my favs the (its a true story) a bird crapped on me and within about 40mins wamm...ling galore with myself and el_sid banging them in.

In total we ened up with...

22 ling from 5lb-9lb
2 cod around 5lb
loads of whiting
2 pouting
1 weaver
7 sandeel
loads of mackerel

It was head and head all day with myself taken 11 ling and 1 cod and el_sid taken 11 ling and 1 cod

Great few hours out and i even stopped fishing to take a few pics this time, all but 7 fish returned today and all would have been but some of the ling had died due to the swim bladder.

Ow them live and dead sandeel make the ling go wild, had 4 drops with 1 on and had 4 fish, changed to mackerel and nothing...strange as mackerel give off a trail and sandeel nothing i would think lip hooked.

Few pics for you but not many of fish just day in general.

Well done, great report and some nice fish. My trip on Flamer II cancelled tomorrow, strange how weather is great today, blowing a gale tomorrow and then calm again monday. I think that was probably my last chance to get out for the first time this year. This windy weather is really getting me down.

Off to Shields pier tomorrow instead to loose a load of tackle:)

Sounds like a canny day for you two ,I've not tried sandeel for Ling bait before ,we've got some Launce frozen for the winter piking ,so it might be worth trying them on the boat as well.
