Stingray July report i mean April 25.04.11

Well after the trips away skate fishing i thought i may feel abit down in the dumps if the fishing was poor today and with family onboard i needed to work harder to keep others fishing...well glad it was FANTASTIC, in fact this day will take some beaten and its only April.

We set off at 5.30am and headed for the rough ground, first drop 3 codling in one go, 2nd drop 2 codling and so on...between the 3 of us we took 29 codling from 2lb-7lb in less than an hour.

We kept on going on this mark until i said this is to much like amckerel fishing and lets head off shore.

We headed off and fished one of my fav marks (banker) and boy ow boy it was worth the travel as it was packed to the hilt with cod and ling, i kept count of everything over 2lb for the record books and we hit in 76 cod and ling with 47 of them being cod and 29 of them ling.

By this time that NE wind had got up and turned a smooth sea into a rough sea in no time at all, we plugged away taken the odd ling but the drift picked up and holding bottom was hard..then i landed the 1st double figure fish of the boat this year a 10lb 2oz ling

So over the moon with the catch today but it was a very rough ride back and the plans to fish Tues is off....still cant complain today and every body went home with a few fish, we kept 26 and put the rest back.

I am still in shock this is April.

Great report Richy , thats a great day you've had, and well done on the doubler, and what makes it a great read is the catch and release, 26 fish kept out of that great haul is good for our sport and conservation .

fcukin hell - whats changed. Thats a great day mate well done. Just hope the season goes this way for the whole season. Thats 2 posts rich and a smile in atleast one of them. Good skate fishing and a great APRIL day.

Its been good so far, last year May, june was great...July a waste of time and Aug good then Sept a waste of time...mainly due to weather so i have loving every min i get out at the moment.

Boosted the R.Q HF comp up from 8lb to 10lb 2oz as well, so still loads of scope for many more vouchers for people.

Cheers lads, its all good when you have family on and they catch.....beats the next meet up of "i never caught anything" "should have went shopping" "only chance i have of fish is in Tesco" and so on..so 20+ cod and ling each along with coalie is a good result for them..mind my fishing tackle took a hammer so abck to the shops.

Hit the bottom and wind up 3 turns never seemed to stick, hit the bottom and leave a coil on the surface seemed to be the standard lol

Just got back off holiday today Sunday, and wondered what i'd been missing, not many catch reports, then I read yours Rich, looks like yous had a fantastic day, great to see. So all them hours of rig, perks, weights, making sure paid off.
I hear the seas been a tad rough, so i'm not going to get out with the forcast for the rest of this week, and then i'm off to my sisters in spain for another ten days, so thats another fortnight plus, before I get my fix Well done mate

Yer after Tuesday you never missed much weather wise, its east winds until at least Thursday but they cant last forever

This day seems so far away....it has gone from April to July in this thread to May to Oct of late lol
