anybody thats fished the pier knows you can see the people walking up or down when the north pier light flashes down shields pier, fishing on the end catching the odd fish this bloke was standing behind me and said anything doing?.nearly **** mesel cos i never seen or heard him comming, aye few small codlings i said, nowt strange in that but the guy could only be described as dressed like a victorian gent with what looked like a top hat on,black beard, reminded me of a pic of abraham lincoln.
tried looking for him walking off the pier in the lights after a minute or so but couldnt see anyone.
told a few of the older fisher folk next time i was down and they said it was the pier ghost

TC was fishing there with his son one night Stevie at the Rail End I think. A lad walked past them towards the end and I am sure Tony said he had no shoes on. As the night went on a few past them on their way off but not this lad and they were saying he must be freezing. They moved along to the end later and it was completely empty, Tony swore to me that he didn't pass them. Very strange lol.

Stevie, you just want me to mention my incident on Sun Night dont ya lol...Fished Hawthorn Hive on Sun Night in a Seaham Club Comp 5pm till 10pm. Not a sole on the beach but me (Gulp) anyone who knows the beach will know that its not exactly Club Tropicana ha. More like Planet of the Apes...9.20hrs and not one fish, it suddenly became freezing and a voice behind me said ' Caught owt son ' after pickin mesell up off the ground, I said 'nowt mate' turning round and turning on cap lamp.......Not a sole there and visibility was good for about 300m....Cut me line and more or less ran up the beach to the steps and went up 3 at a time lol...all 300 ov em....Not that I was scared u understand...Phoned flatheed and codonly as a got to the car....got no sympathy, thanks lads..............Stevie, you say you describe your bloke as top hat, and looking like a victorian/Abraham Lincoln gentlemen. You sure you wernt looking into a mirror lol lol :o

Lol Ian, never had anything like that but it does remind me of the times someone has walked up behind me and said "Caught owt"     The last time was on Cambois beach, where the hell he came from I don't know, scared the crap out of me. When I walk up to someone on the beach I always whistle and flash my headlight so they know I'm coming, must admit I have done the same to others in the past that I have thought had seen me though :D :D :D

Was there not a fella who used to walk around Sunderland dressed in Victorian clobber? (Might have been Greenwich like :red:)

ill bet the lads who fish whitby pier get sick of seeing people dressed as victorian gent's or vampires :D , ive heard there are a few dodgy gadgee's that hang around seaton sluice sand dunes though

the 2nd bay at south shields is apparently haunted.
theres a lad called lenny who wont go anywhere near the place in the dark

I had a book compiled by Alan "The Flashing Blade" Rerbson...Grisly Trails and Ghostly Tales - very good local ghost stories etc...think I charitised it a while back...worth a look if that kind of thing floats your boat

Know a lad in the Alnwick club who's built like an Out House (does the weights), won't fish Dunstanburgh castle on his own, and if anyone else there, he's always lokking back at the castle!

Not on a fishing trip but as a medium who has done a few investigations locally and seen and felt lots of things i see know reason why the same would not occur on the seas edge.

I've never been down to Marsden beach for a few years now. Was set up in front of the Grotto (beside the rock), two other lads there who went about midnight when tide was on the way up so ended up just by myself. A few minutes after they left I decided to move my gear further up the beach, the two lads where roughly at the bottom of the steps by then. Took the box upto about where the sand meets the pebbles. I'd just turned to go back down to where the rod was when I heard footsteps crunching along the pebbles. Thinking it was one of the lads coming back I turned to to ask what they'd forgot but there was no one there but the sound of the footsteps was still there. Headlamp on full beam and hand torch on but there was definitely no one there. I nearly crapped myself as looking up at the steps I could see the two of them about halfway up. Can't really describe the feeling, just kind of froze. Footsteps stopped after probably what was only a couple of seconds but seemed like an age. Quickly got down to the rod, cut the line off and started walking back to the box. as I got to about 10feet from the box it went freezing cold. Don't think Linford Christie would have beat me up the Grotto steps that night. I never thought much of it at the time as I just wanted to get off the beach quick but since found out that a localised drop in temperature is assocaited with a 'presence'. May be Lowrider can confirm that.

Never been back on that beach in the dark since.

I used to fish Marsden beach loads as a kid but it always gave me the creeps, probs the caves and stuff and my imagination working overtime, ive read the Alan Robson book and still got it somewhere, good read.

Was fishing the cambois hot pipe back around 1996, late evening all alone and a thick fog came in suddenly and surrounded the place. Had been reading a horror book during the day so I was instantly on edge but kept on fishing. Kept hearing the odd noise at various points around me but never saw what it was until I finally switched my lamp on to try and look around in the fog and a pair of glowing eyes appeared right in front of me in the water. Nearly filled my pants! It was a seal of course but by the time I'd realised that I'd already packed up and was scrambling to get off the thing!

That is often the case as long as all other possible reasons are ruled out.
Given this was in the open it has more cred then being indoors as so often it is hard to discount drafts from all manner of places.
