after blanking in style at last nights comp on slatey gut, 4 people on it , 5 codling caught and i could not even manage a bite.
Anyway with my left over bait of it was this morning to cullercoats harbour,ti looked good, got a few bites and landed a codling approx 2lb, then came the bite we all dream of and i struck into one hell of a fish got it all the was in, had it on the surface approx 12 foot away from me, it was HUGE it was bigger than my biggest ever ( 17ib ) the twat give one last nod of its head and the hook fell out of its mouth I WAS GUTTED !!!!!! off it same away back to its friends.
Next cast another good bite stuck into another good fish but not as big, got it in approx 50 yards and snagged it on the ledge, snapped the lot off when i tried to get it off.
NEVER GOT ANOTHER BITE

Sixfoot Steve & I also blanked in style at the boat station , saw 1 codling 2 1/2 to 3 lb caught and that was it , the crabs must have thought it was Christmas with the huge variety of bait we so willingley laid before them , STILL it was fun & for a good cause , nice to see some faces from the past , bloody hard luck at Cullercoats Bob

south side of cullercoats harbour Ian,at the top with a 30 yard lob early on at low water, keep hiting the same spot by casting a bit further till you get washed off, best action was the flood. i was using rag and lug, the sea was dying off a bit, no idea what is like now though

Unlucky Bob, theres nothing worse. 3 years ago I had one about 15lb on at Roker, walked it all the way to the steps with this bloke who'd come to give me a hand. Gets it at the bottom of the stairs and I was just about to shout 'don't grab the trace, grab the fish' when he grabbed the trace and off it swam!

Wish I'd took notice Bob.

Had a couple of hours up at Snabs Point.....bit of a lump on and no fish.

Gave up before low water.

One other lad there, don't know if he had any more success after I left.

Going to try the harbour tonight though.

Do you normally park at the bottom of the ramp next to the pier itself, Bob?????

Bob,
You must have walked past me and Rod during the comp as we were right in the corner of the Bottom of the Stairs. I must have been leading at one point as I got one at 6.01, Rod got one at 6.10 and we only had one bite after that - I was fishing to the right of the hole - Rod to the left. I got a slack line bite that took about 30 yards to catch up to , by which time I was over the top of Rod. Needless to say it never came back. Our plan was to fish the harbour at low tide but the idea of going to bed and getting up again and then driving back to Birmingham meant we stayed up and fished the tide down a bit but off the south pier. The bottom end of the harbour must have been full of sand as we never lost any gear but were cleaned off every hoy. Packed in about 3 o'clock. Were you past the flat skeers ? 'cos its really tough going further up but further back when trying to get fish in. Feel for you though. Will post when Rod gets back as he's using up the bait tonight.

Yes that was me. Rod and I spread out a bit to look as though the hole was full but we needn't have bothered as everyone else fished AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS. There's now no hole there at all as the sands shift along the beach. Said to Rod - Bottom of the Stairs on the ebb, Slatey for the bottom of the tide and the Harbour for the flood. Thought you all did well to stay on as long as you did but couldn't bear inflicting a bit of side casting on you, especially fishing without a lamp.
Interesting about the flatties. They had a taste for mussel as well as worm.
