Fished Smith's dock today from low water till about half water up. Used a two hook rig with crab and worm, the river must be teeming with codling as me and mate had codling every chuck - here's the catch they were only between 3 and 9 inches long, however they kept us both busy and were constant. We must of had at least 40 or more between us, here's hoping they end up 1-2 pounds for this coming season. God knows after this abysmal season we all need a good run, i can't honestly remember a worst year than this, what few codling are kicking around are quality fish but they are few and far between. Who knows with this run of strong northerlies forecast for the end of the week, things may improve. Ah well got to keep trying, cheers

Cheers lads,
yeah you're right they were small but they did keep us busy, most were fin perfect little specimens, makes you realise just how much the river has cleaned up over the years. Mind you i always enjoy fishing in the Tyne there is always something going on about and the local fishing lads are always helpful. We laughed on Sunday when the big DFDS ferry (booze cruize) went past someone at the back of the boat had a huge portable CD stereo player with 'fog on the tyne' belting out, lol. Cheers lads
