Fished the mouth of the Wansbeck estuary over the weekend, horribly weedy though so not much doing. Bunch of other folks there on Saturday tea-time were pulling lots of plaice/flounders and the odd eels. From what I could see they were all using mackeral or herring as bait. My ragworm was doing nothing and the weed was annoying me so I had a few chucks further around on the beach then a wander along to nearer the bridge on the spine road, still nowt though.
Sunday I'd planned to take the bairn onto the pier at Blyth, but the carpark was closed off and there were cars and cones everywhere else, so we headed to the Wansbeck again. Small coley and an eel on rag/squid cocktail, millions of crabs (Sam was pulling them up three at a time on a handline over the edge of the little harbour wall) and again the tide was dragging mountains of weed in with it making it near impossible to fish.

Never fished that area at all.
Have been told it is a good spot for flatties.
Pity about the weed, crabs seem to be a prob all round at the moment.

Great spot for flatties. Lot of flounders and plaice from there, one of my favourite summer spots... I head over to cambois, along the little road where the buccaneer pub is and down to where the boat sheds are. There's a little harbour wall at the mouth which is a perfect spot to fish from.
I usually fish 1hr each side of the high tide. Light gear, is all you need, the current is strong and there's a few snags, only need a short cast and you soon find the fish.
When it's fishing well it's almost constant once they start feeding

I just drive through to where the boat sheds are mate, been fishing there for over a decade and there's never been anything said... failing that there's always the public carpark opposite the buccaneer...

I often find here tipping worm with long, thin strips of squid works well.

yeah, that's the ticket bribones, straight through and you'll come to the boat sheds about 800yrds past the buccaneer. There's a tatty faded sign saying parking is for members only but as I say I've been going there for over a decade with nowt said and I see other people parking in there aswell. The little harbour wall is literally straight on as if the road continued right to the end, cast parallel to the wall into the bay roughly where the first boat is - maybe 40' at most, if there's no bites there then aim roughly to the first pylon in the distance (to the right of that first cast) again about the same distance... just work a slow arc like that until you find the fish.
As peter.m says, try tipping off some ragworm with squid, herring or macky and that should tempt the bigger fish...

Honestly never tried in the winter, should be canny at the mouth I would have thought with the current stirring things up there.
Not often many boats in the water there Lowrider, usually at most half a dozen (with most of them being tiny things)each time I've been along...
