Sugar sands 26/1

Me n a lad from work fished Sugar Sands from 4 till 10. Spent the 1st hour on the rocks but lost gear on every cast so moved onto the sand. Caught 8 coddling (18lb bag) between us from 1.5lb to 3.5lbs.

Not that much biting and a few were missed. All caught on 4/0 pulley pennel rigs. Tried a few baits but peeler and black tipped with mussel seemed to get the most action. Weather was kind.

Dont think I'll fish without peeler for the foreseeable future. They seem to like it..... or maybe it's my aftershave.

well done mat is the gate still open did you fish the bay straite down in the little car park was there any sea on I all ways seem to blank there:)

Started on howdiemont skeer (rocks on the left of the bay in front if the carpark. Then moved to the next bay along to the left which is sugar sands.

Aye. One out and the rest in. Water was mucky from the weather earlier on but not much movement in the sea.
aye sound m8 fish up that way a lot like the haven mostly the gullies
but always fancied the beaches like but was always told its a waste of time not a lot of fish caught there have noticed when the tide drops away there like little bays do they all fish any advice would be great

I'm pretty new to all this but there doesn't seem to be many reports of fish out of there. I had a 5lb cod off howdiemont skeer 2 weeks ago in same tide/sea conditions but got sick of snagging so went for the sand.
It's a shallow beach so you need to keep moving every 10 mins or the tide will take your box. On the up side, there's no snags and skeers to either side which draw fish for feeding. I was maybe 5 metres off the skeer casting straight out onto clean ground.
I was wading out n giving it a fair chuck but I'm not sure that made a difference. Last time I was there I fished with a young lad and his spinning rod. Casts hardly reached the waves but he caught more than me.

Google maps has a pretty good low tide image so you can see the lie of the rocks. Makes it easier to pick a mark n the dark.

sugar sands is a great little bay & can chuck up some big bags & doublers if u hit it rite, same with the howdiman.
well done m8
