Going to try our luck tonight from Hartlepool yacht club for a few hours, going at 6.30pm when we finish work. Got no bait , can anyone recommend any decent bait from the supermarket, was thinking of getting some mackerel and mussels. Will post a report tomorrow and hopefully with photo's if we catch anything and if i can work out how to upload photo's. Will be trying inshore wrecks about 3 to 4 mile out.

I do not know about Hartlepool in specific, but the trend looks like that:

Fishing is better on the inshore grounds. The wrecks produce bigger fish, but way offshore and only a few.

Loads of codling on the rough grounds, 3/4 of them undersized but the odd keepers

The best baits seems shads.
Best colours: green, white and blue 4 inch

Bait: By a mile the best bait atm is crab, but it attracts little ones

Also good: prawns on hokkai

disappointing: worms, squid

If you do do the wrecks, try to catch a fresh mack, but they are very very scattered

Good mark near Hartlepool to catch them is a drift over 54 42.25N 1 2.01W ish

hope it helps

Thanks for the info Kartonkel, appreciate it, will give that area a go and let you know how we got on. Got plenty of shads in most colours and hokkies so we will try both methods.
cheers phil.

Yesterday on our boat out of Hartlepool the fishing was poor but it was squid on shiny daylights that did the trick. I got two on them and only one from leadhead pearl colour. I tried all sorts of shad, redgill, twintails on different colour with no luck. Even the surefire rhubarb and custard didn't catch any. I never had to try so many colours of shad in my memory yet caught so few fish on them.

I don't think hokkei tipped with prawn caught any yesterday but the pink hokkei with squid caught one or two.

There were quite a few undersized codling caught and only one big macky.
