Fished sunday night with gaverick, i ended up with 4 codling, 1 dab and a big whitey (all returned). Gary got 2 codling. Its the first time ive moved away from the big bait/big hooks idea in winter and started using smaller hooks with either a single lug tipped with a mini squid head or a few head hooked maddies or whites on 2 and 3 hook flappers- i was suprised at the increase in the amount of bites and amount of fish compared to the usual tactics.

it can certainly make for a more interesting night fishing for what is actually there rather than what we sometimes hope to be there. ive started doing the same, fish one rod with a big bait on and another with a two flapper scratching set up. i had 4 fish sunday night and they all came on the scratching rod. otherwise it would have been a blank night..

Well done on your catches. I have found that a 2 hook flapper with size 1 hooks are as good as anything on roker pier. It's only worth changing to a larger hook & bait when you know there is a chance of decent cod.
