Targets for 2012!

Just coming to the end of a long boring shift and my mind has wandered to the season that is almost on us!
With the new boat delivery date still not in concrete yet it may still be wishful thinking but my personal targets for this year will comprise of;

Cod- Over 15lb
Ling- Over 15lb
Haddock- Big enough to eat and over MLS!
Plaice- As per Haddock!

Two new ones this season ( Plaice and Haddock) as hopefully with the amount of Plaice that come off South Shields pier there should be a few kicking around? Who Knows! I am specifically going to have a go with the recommended mussels/worms and smaller hooks this year as well as I much prefer a Haddock fillet to a cod one if I had to chose!

I'll be happy if 2012 provides the same quality of fishing as last year, I'd like to get out more often and see better conditions more often but I'll be happy with the fishing I had last year. If I can catch a haddock or two I will be even happier , I barely had a bait on my hooks last year, I think I'll give the smelly crawly stuff a swim more often this year.

Bet you can't wait for the new boat Graham :)

Out more often and better conditions more often sounds good to me Oldessox.

Found a spot off Hartlepool that produced a few good haddock last year, good old macky baited hokies were doing the trick for them.

Good luck on the plaice and haddock this season Graham. I suspect the plaice will be the easier of the two to locate. They seem to hang around the end of the piers, I find the Tynemouth pier area holds some decent ones March onwards. Better chance for a haddock further offshore.

What is the delivery date for the new boat, and are you berthing at the RQ's straight away!

I can't wait for the new boat's arrival. Micky is firming up the delivery date today Martin and hopefully it might come forwards and be before March the 1st then straight into the Marina at Royal Quays Arthur( lock maintainance depending!).
I am taking my final exam at South Shields college in July so all being well I will have all of June, July and August off with me not going back to sea and work until the 23rd of August!!!!:):):):):)
I am aiming to hit it hard and already putting cash away to pay for the petrol now as I am hoping we will be going through a fair amount!
You ventured out recently Ray?

Graham.

Had a run out last week Graham , the sea was too big to fish comfortably but I did try, and failed :( to catch anything , I was only out for a couple of hours , I enjoyed it but I think I might have to have a rethink on tactics if I actually want to catch something
I might get out again this week sometime and take some bait with me, where to go though is a mystery, i was talking to a lad a couple of berths up from me who was saying no one fishes out of amble in the winter and even the lobster boats don't go out when there's a frost as it's a waste of time.
If the sea is anywhere near flat though I'll give it a go :D

pmsl:)

aye col i need a bigger fish than jeff, after last years disaster:(

So do I !, nearly did, but that's what it's all about, a bit of friendly rivalry and banter plus a good laugh and a pint at the Schooner. We'll do it all again no doubt in July!!!!

We'll be up for the comp and having a shot at the Farne deep wrecks! Weather permitting!

Graham.

Will you be able to carry that much fuel Graham! We'll just have to chug along at 7 knots probably not going further than 8-9 miles, but sometimes it works.
