After a number of years being faced with a bill varying from £6000 - £8000 from the HMRC(?) and numerous appeals got a letter today saying - Ooops, our fault you don't have to pay it back. Over the tates. Weight off the shoulders an aw that. Anyone in a similar position who's been overpayed as a mistake who genuinely believed they were entitled to the money - stick at it, it's worth it. :):):):):):):):):):):)

GET IN :D

The ****s overpaid us one year and took it of us the next year. They are on my list of tossers along with BT, SKY, and British Gas.
Sky and bt i have to deal with but bg i wouldnt touch with a bardge pole.

Yes if you have given all the correct info and they have screwed up it is classed as "an official error".
Happened to me,found out that when i moved someone had not sussed that since i was not paying a mortgage but now rent, even though they had been told and were paying a part of the rent,i was not entitled to income support.
They at first but me down as a fraud case, till we proved they were wrong, odd i always thought that they would have to prove my guilt.
Then they tried to say you still owe it.
Got a solictor involved and got an apology,50 quid compo and they paid legal costs.
Total they said i was overpaid was 5600,so as has been said.
Fight them if you are right.
