well guys here goes lol...i finally got down to the hugh last night after tryin to set off three time and had to go back home when i realised i left my worm in the fridge and set off again then i found i left my head lamp on the side on charge(not the best start to a nights fishing:rolleyes:)...finally got there about 10:30after i missed my bus in hartlepool started fishing the sea was p!ss flat first cast i had a really small knock and the frist thinmg i thought was bloody crabs as it was about low water struk into it a small flatty every cast after that i was getting small bites from the flatties but just couldnt hook them and that was pretty much the story for the rest of the night flatty bites after bites every cast managed to land half a dozen of them along with 2 whities after about 0400thismorning everything went quiet on the end so i moved down to the gate and fised in the rocks fisrt couple of casts the bait retuned untouched and i was thinkin of packing up but i thought one more cast so i filled my hook with rag and razor and cast out about 65-70 yards 5mins latewr i had a slack liner but faild to hook the fish i put another bait of the same around the same distance this time within mins my rod was bouncin all over the place i struk into the fish and thought codling(the last thing i was expecting to see )....as i got it to the side of the pier i tried to hand ball the fish up but it dropped off a couple of no more than a couple of feet away from me:mad:...after that i decided to call it a dayat 0630 and headed for the bus stop all in all not too bad of a night just a little dishartening losing a cod that i was not expecting at all.....think i might be back there next week fishing the gate again maybes this time a little more successful

What a barsteward-all that work and a good fish dropped off. You remind me of myself when i was a lad getting buses over the headland to fish.

well im up in balckhall i have to get two busses through to the headland but now and then i will ride down on a push bike with all ma gear i love that place it has to be my favourite mark around in hartlepool...but as for losing the fish well...i suppose these things happen its fishing for ya

Shame about losing that fish mate but at least you got some good sport with the flatties and whities. I know what you mean about the small flattie bites, can get annoying when you can't hook them, I missed at least a dozen bites when I was certain I'd struck at the perfect moment.

well the heugh can be cruel dizzy, thats the way the breakwater is, nice bit of info about going down to the gates ,will try it myself next time i'm fishing on the end and all you get is the little tap tap of flattie bites wich you can never hook.

I caught my first ever codling from the heugh last year, it was the first time me and gaverick had been on and we fished just before the gate. hard lines on loosing the fish, cheers for the report.

just be carefull fishing on the top at the gate mate the best advice i could probally give is to use a rotton bottom cos it can be a lead graveyard as it is full of rocks but at the same time can be very rewarding :D
