"The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" opens tonight!

I know the short Summer fishing season is over for us when my first production begins and tonight is opening night for my young people's theatre company - Kayos.

With our local theatre unavailable, as a brand new theatre built to replace it is behind schedule, we are performing in a local school for the first time ever. Having to deal with a Head Teacher who treats us a nuisance in "his" school, has stretched my negotiating and schmoozing skills to the limit !

It's been a hectic few days with technical and dress rehearsals and as usual I am an absolute nervous wreck before opening night.

"Jean Brodie" is a play full of humour, pathos, drama and heartache and is also rather shocking.

The part of Brodie is enormous and all credit to the two girls playing the part on alternate nights. I use two separate casts, over four nights, to give more young people the opportunity to play leading roles. It is a bit of a logistical nightmare to direct effectively two productions, but worth it in the end I think.

Once we finish on Saturday night, we have Sunday off, then return the following Sunday to start rehearsals for "Les Miserables" which will be in the new theatre in March. For musicals, Lynn joins me as Musical Director, so we are really looking forward to that, as it's one of our favourite shows.

Here's a photo from last night's rehearsal and no jokes about schoolgirls please............I have heard them all before :)

Thanks lads, just back home. Play went really well, audience seemed to love it. This pupil forgot a few lines, so we locked her in the cubby ! :)
