yo, i was just wondering if anyone has been on the sarah JFK fishing before around this time of year?, me and my da and a few mates are looking to go out the sarah jfk and was just wondering if we could get a bit of info on what we may expect this time of year? cheers

Top Notch!

Top Notch!

I've been going out on the Sarah JFK for a little while now and have NEVER had a bad days fishing. Alan always seems to be able to find the fish even when other boats are not catchin. One lad had a cod over 32lb on sat and there has been loads of massive ling and pollock. last time i went out had 13 cod to about 6.5lb and a ling of 8lb. One of, if not the best skipper on the tyne. You will not be disapointed. Book up asap.

I normally use jiggers or baited daylites and i've always done well. theres plenty of macky for bait. just strip it down and hoy it on, if theres plenty use fresh evry drop. i've caught on orange rubber shrimps, twintails and shads before as well. id take a box of squid just in case macky are quiet, a few pirks and a few sets of daylights(Cod and mackerel). Alan can normally sort you out with some cheap daylites but check with him first. As your wreckin make sure you got plenty lead, 14 or 16 oz. I've been ok tho, don't normally loose much.

are you able to hire rods and reels etc.. on the sarah jfk?

I emailed Alan myself a while ago and he said that he can provide tackle (I'm not sure how much he has available) and can also provide lures/bait etc

Best thing would be to ring him and ask him any question you may have - I believe his number is on the site

i should be booking the sarah jfk within the next couple of days, so do you rekn i could be in for some canny sized ling and cod?, and maybe some pollock aswell?

i was out with alan on friday and got a 8.5lb ling and a few cod . the lad next to me had a 7lb pollock and some really good cod. recently theres been pollock over 10lb. there was a 17lb ling the other day as well. last year me mate had a pb ling of 27lb. The chronicle on thurday had a pic of a lad with a cod of 32lb off skinners boat. i normally come back with loads of 4-5lb fish or a few massive ones. good craic

is there any reports of any other spieces of fish getting caught apart from the fish mentioned and mackerel on any of the other tyne boats

god you love ure macky lol theres been a few dog fish caught on drifts over wrecks lately there feeding on the droped bits of macky
also a few thorn back rays been haning about on the sand banks taking rag baited hockies

Andy was that you fishing the right hand side of the boat at the front on friday? I was the one in the red coat fishing with lead heads all day next to Bambra.

Yes they will be fine, orange is my fav colour for cod, make sure you bait them up for ling with a bit of mackerel as well. If the tide is fast use a pirk on the end...if not use a 10oz+ lead and hold it as close tot eh wreck as possible.

I had 6 cod and 2 ling on orange lead heads last friday but most lads had fish on baited daylights and pirks.

Tip for wreck fishing..nothing fancie..keep it simple and cheap and bait it well.

its actaully gonna be my 1st time on a boat fishing, do you just do what you do when ur fishing for macky? just let it drop and then start reeling in when its went down deep?

also what breaking strain line should i have on the reel? because i may be buying my own stuff, not to sure yet.

also im hoping alan will stop just off shields pier for a hour an hour or so to get some mackerel for bait...

cheers

well me and my step da were just gonna buy a cheap set of 2 rods + 2 reels for £50 off ebay. my step da used to go boat fishing all the time, he caught his personal best about 6 years back which was a cod just over the 40lb mark..he has a photo somewhere so ill try and get that on here..

but i no ill like boat fishing, i dont get sea sick so it should be alright, i like the thought of being able to go out instead of being stuck on a pier or marina.

Keith is right, wreck fishing is bl**dy hard work and you either love it or hate it. (i love it)

I would borrow as much and buy as little as you can for the 1st trip, it is not as easy as just dropping down and waiting as you will find out.

Alan wont stop and fish for mackerel as you will prob get them when he stops above a wreck.

Best of luck when you do try, shame you dont know anyone that could take you out for a few hours one night time jsut to get a feel of wreck fishing. It might save you £30 in the end if you hate it.
