Fished the Walkway from midday until 9pm yesterday despite the huge tide it was relatively successful. Very quiet though until darkness only a few very small codling. After the tide turned it picked up considerably left with 5 good sized codling ranging from 2-4lbs. Like I say in hindsight should have just went down once darkness kicked in, but a throughly enjoyable days fishing & not particularly cold.
Baits used were Mussel, Lug, Rag, with the fish taken on all three baits.

I've never had any major issues fishing the walkway even when there is a big tide... Grip leads and put your bait 10-15yds into the tide. Allow a nice bow in ya line and the lead will often settle pretty well.
Sounds like you had a canny session anyway. I've always found it fishes best into the first hour or two of darkness.
