Another good trip out with Peter Aright weather one the lads got a beauty ling plenty more good fish including a nice cod I got so once again good fishing
I mate canny night, steves ling 15 1/2lb cracking fish!
I'm still buzzing Chris.
I was suppose to be on a different boat this morning, but got a phone call to say the gearbox needed fixing so he had to cancel. With all my fishing gear next to the front door, i was gutted at the thought of not getting out for my first boat trip ever. I then remembered reading on nesa that Peter was taking the Sapphire out from 5pm to 9pm, so i rang Peter to see if there were any places left. I was glad to hear there was a place for me, so off i went for 5pm.
From the minute i stepped on the boat, everyone was very friendly and helpful, especially Peter, Chris-Scott, and Peters right hand man Johnny.
We headed for the wrecks and it wasn't long before the fish started coming onboard. I started off using rhubarb/custard sidewinders without much luck, then different coloured shads, again without much luck. That's when Chris gave me a flowing rig to put a fillet of mackerel on and it done the trick. My rod pulled straight down and pulled in a cod to about 5lb. On the next wreck we went to i lost 2 sets of gear getting snagged on the wreck. That's when i went back to fishing with the R/C sidewinder and baited it with a full squid. After letting it sink to the bottom of the wreck then slowly winding it up, then letting it drop to the bottom again. That's when i thought i was snagged again. As i carried on reeling expecting Peter to come over to pull me out the snag again, it just kept coming with my rod having a great bend on it. Peter was watching my rod bending then ran over with the gaff and said it must be a great fish. I was over the moon when plunged the gaff into the sea and pulled a 15 1/2lb ling in.
I can't believe i got two lovely fish on my first ever trip out. On my way home our lass phoned to ask if i'd caught owt, and i told her just a couple of small YTs. You should have seen her face when i put them on the kitchen bench..
I must end my report by thanking Peter for being so professional, the craic was great, and also Chris and Johnny for being so helpful.
I'll try to put a photo on tomorrow.
