time is a ticking on us smokers..........

Odd we were just talking about this as next year Easter egg run is back in a marque and it will have to be non smoking.
140 foot by 60 and 30 ft high with draughts coming through but it is non smoking.
I will not be enforcing it

I think this where a little vagueness in the law comes into play, as what constitutes 'public'

what still amazes me is the sheep like condition of the UK population...lots of debate about this and many other new laws that have arrived, but no-one stands up and says "hang on a minute hy are MP's always exempting themselves from te laws we have to abide by??"

smoking in the houses of parliament is ok, even in the restaurants, why aren't the anti-smoking lobby pursuing that one??

last year i was up at a few do's in big tents in scotland and they were all marked with no smoking signs so i think it must apply to any enclosed space where there is a public work health risk.
this ban is not being brought in for the general public its being brought in for workers and the workforce, eg bar staff and the like, its just another item to add to the health and saftey poster

A few months ago a couple of council officials (that's a good oxy moron) came to our bar and asked what plans were in place for the smoking ban, the answer "None". We were told "You have the small seating area outside and you could errect a small shelter out the back"

My boss then asked if these places had to be licensed and they said yes. He replied that he thought that all licensed areas were to be none smoking. They looked at each other and said yes they are. They then packed away their paper work and said they would return at a later date.

Needless to say they havn't returned so we still don't know how we stand.

You are spot on Mark, they don't care about the public, after all they have a choice whether they go in or not. The staff however is the worrying part as in the future they could make claims against the government. Hmmmmm that sounds a bit synical, as if they don't care about the staff either and are just trying to cover their backs.

Jim.

Believe it or not I've worked on non smoking "building sites" three years ago. The site I'm on now allows smoking until the windows are fitted but that wont be 'til well after July 1st, so where do I stand as a non smoker who doesn't mind the smell of smoke? Imagine the expenses the politicians could claim working that one out!

It's nearly two years since I posted on nesa that I was chucking the fags and I haven't had one since and I'm very proud of myself but I'm a great believer in freedom and choice and if u wanna have a smoke go ahead and don't let the ******** grind you down
