STARTED OUT A BIT LUMPY TODAY (slight my a*se:mad :) but it was worth it in the end. We stopped on a mark to get mackerel for the rest of the days bait. we soon had that covered with a big builders bucket full in about 10/15 mins, 8 on boat and now down to 7 fishing, plenty of ground bait. We head off to the ground but decided to stop on a wreck on the way, a short stop, just 3 drifts but we got 2 nice cod in the 8lb bracket :):):) and of we went again. first ground mark was very good but slow at first as the tide was just starting the flood. i sujested they bait up as the tide wasn't good for shads at the moment. A few minutes later and we had first ling of the day, 12lb, about one hour later we only had about 3 ling and 5 cod but the tide was now spot on for the shads so i got the lads to change over. First drop on next drift we had 5 cod and another ling and it just caried on. The cod where mostly around the 8lb mark with some nice ones at 10 and 11 lb. We wher steady away for the next couple of hours then it slowed down so we headed of to another mark about half a mile away. we got set up on the first drift and caught 6 cod and another ling ( on shads )smalest cod was 7 and biggest was just over 10lb :):):)
I must say the lads ( Mansfield fishing club ) new what they where doing and at the end of the day they had over 185lb of cod and ling + one 9lb pollock we set off back early as the lads wanted to get fresh macky to take home:):):)

your numbers don`t fit

185 lb / 8lb each = 23 fish !!

A good day at the office :D, beats semi retirement due to the weather eh?
Keep them catching and the reports coming Barney ;)

Hi Ray and yeh it beats retirement;) All the lads (baring one:( ) really enjoyed themselves and so did I. It's great when the fish are there:) but it's not a good feeling when you try every thing and they are just not playing ball m8
On the day before (Friday) it was hard work trying to find fish, 5 lads on boat and we where lucky if we had 8 cod on board! Mind it was nice to see Kieth get his first double.
We had another hard day today but the lads enjoyed it so I will crack on m8 :)

Cheers
Berney

What a completely churlish post! What on earth motivates you to type this rubbish? The man has written a post of a great day of fishing and you post the above. Well I can count too and TJ says they caught 24 fish for over 185lbs of fish, so what is your point exactly?

nice one TJ Gannet.....on the fish again i see..... i still need those co-ordinates mate..;)

if i ever manage to get out that is..:(

don`t tell me, he`s a pro....
kayo`s m8, you and your good lady should give barney a ring, am sure your regular skipper would`nt mind m8.

I did not want to be malicious or, how you call it, "churlish.

What will always annoy me in in catch reports is exaggeration and inaccuracy.

I read your reports and they are nice, Kayos

Another day the skipper and a customer argue, because one said he had 50 fish and the other swears it was 27.

What is the point of posting catch reports who are rather ferrytales.

You sometimes see photos of average cod or ling and then you see some ridiculous weight tag put on them.

This bragging is annoying, unnecessary and actually childish. I love reading catch reports and I post them myself...

I might have been wrong on this occasion and apologise

Thanks for replying mate. People who exaggerate are only kidding themselves, but as you have now said, this occasion wasn't one of them.

Cheers and good luck with your fishing.

I think it would be wise of me to explain a few things:
When the lads/lasses start catching fish I normaly weigh the first 2 or 3 just so everyone on board has a good idea what is being caught, including me, if a fish looks anywhere near the 10lb mark I will also weigh that. The only other time I would weigh a fish is if someone asked me to, maybe to sort a sweep out. Of course no weight will be accurate as we are going up and, yes you guest it, down lol.
So as you can see I try to get a fair picture of what is being caught but it's difficult sometimes with a packed boat, it's much easeyer to sit and pick at a few reports lol sorry only playing.
Now I'm not!
Just a little pick at your reply post:
I did say OVER 185lb this could have been 186lb or 286lb? It also could have been fillet.
Many thanks
Berney
