Right guys I'm away to Norway next Thursday after debating weather to take my rod iv decided to take with a mates in the same tube so basically we go halfs on the extra which works out £30 each for going and return.
I have this thick strong tube with caps which will fit 2 rods in it, my question is, will it be ok ie at check in etc.

It will be fine no problem,we stuck four rods in capped drain pipe,to where you going same route via Amsterdam to Trondhiem and divided the cost between us.

Not sure on that,we had four tubes around a dozen rods in total,we were told to tape the tubes together at the checkin desk and paid only as single item price for one.If you ring Lewis Tackle Whitley Bay speak to Simon lm sure he will tell you exactly how we did it and how much, as he did the paperwork.Good luck with your trip great place to fish and visit.

Do you know anyone that can lend you a ski tube? We always use a ski tube because Norwegian Air have a set price for ski tubes which they never weigh and they are just the biz for fishing rods. They have a carrying handle, they can adjust to suit the longest rod, they hold at least 8 rods and you can tape your pirks to the rod butts. SAS airways like the ski tubes to be within a certain length but it's generous and I've never known them to check.
I also have a theory that a ski tube is less likely to "go missing" whereas a bundle of Norway class Shimano or Penn rods could be very tempting to a minimum wage baggage handler.

I would,nt bother with the tube u have. Buy a fishing tube for 50 squid off e-bay. I have one light as a feather made of hard plastic and tough as old boots - been to Norway now 2 year running and back again next feb. They are a good investment. That cardboard one u have must weigh loads. Only allowed 23 kilo. my tube I put weights inside using a small drainpipe. Rod stand and rods and food.

Booking a rod tube with KLM is a nightmare and when your phone they will just tell you to take it to the airport and pay there but they will book it over the phone without a solid price.Im sure your only allowed 9kg with a tube though and they get chucked around and might not make it to Skarnsundet till the following day the same with your cases they lose luggage all the time on these flights.

Been in touch with KLM they said it would be fine book I'd have to book it in at the airport going then returning aswell. Plus I fly with Klm for work so if I use some air miles which I have on my account they said it will be £25.40 going and the same coming back. Hope there right like haha

Everyone seems to have mixed opinions here I can't justify myself paying £50-£60 for a bazuka rod tube as I don't no when I'd be going back to tell the truth. The tube I have here I actually got given for free off a nesa member so it's saving on a few pennies.

I worked in Norway on and off since 1991 always taken rods in every description of tube from drain pipe to purpose made bazooka case. Not lost or had one broken yet incidents are rare,at worst lost rods turned up 24 hours later.Same goes for taking rods anywhere in the world.

Golden rule as you know is keep your weight including your main case, hand luggage, and rods/tube inwith your total overall baggage allowance you are okay everytime anywhere.

It's not rare with Klm mate the bloke new the address in June when he found out it was a rod tube missing along with my case lol got my case back same day rods the following day not good when your only away for 5 days

Well I'm unsure now just the fact they've been back in touch saying they calculated the price wrong and it would work out £65 going plus £65 coming back surely that's a bit steep like. How much is it you normally pay for taking rods over with klm?

We paid £70 return in June it's meant to be classed as an extra case £36 each way

It looks like a giant toilet roll, hope it dosent get wet, and is your rods better than the ones you can use in Norway, just asking like

Good luck getting a price out of them I've been trying for months and not had 2 quotes the same lol

When your back can you let me know what they charged as we go in January.

Never a problem with Norwegian flights but they don't fly from Newcastle and sick of driving to London.

Yeah no problem mate il let you know when I get back.

Its probs the same as most airlines, depending on who you speak to, you will get a different price pre booking. Probs just as well turning up at the desk. Your rod holder will be fine and you may have a chance of it going through free of charge depending on the jobsworth at check in.
