Twintails vs shads

Ok, I'm looking for a bit of help.

I notice that there are a few lads on here that fish twintails with a great degree of success and some bumper catch reports to boot. The problem I have is that I do ok on shads (probably don't persist with them as much as I should), but I really struggle with twin tails catching few fish and oddly often hooking the tail/s on the hook, sometimes masking the point.

My question is simple - are they as good as shads and how are they best fished?

For reference I fish shads on a 3-4ft trace behind whatever weight is needed with the typical draw and drop technique, I'm doing the same with the twintails too just catching little.

Any views or help would be appreciated as it's starting to do my head in lol

Being a lazy bugger with a bad back, with shads or twin tails, I hit the bottom, then slowly wind up, say 20 turns, then drop it back to the bottom. Much easier than jigging them and you can do it for loads longer. It does work - sometimes!

Both equally effective...always good to have both in your arsenal

Fish the same way as with shads...like you've already alluded to...patience is often the key!

As with most fishing it comes down to confidence, if you catch on something you keep using it, as you keep using it you learn more about what works and what doesn't. The dilemma is always do you change from something you have been successful with or not, and when you do if you don't catch straight away you go back to your usual? Add to that limited opportunities at sea and wanting to make the most of those chances do you experiment or stick to what you know works. The truth is probably if the fish are there and hungry and you put something under their nose that looks like food they will have a go at it. We probably decide to experiment when it is slow going and then decide it is not working.

Some good comments there fellas, thanks. Perhaps I need to stick with them and stop defaulting to what I know when the fish start coming aboard....seems easy to do in theory!

Tried twin tails and not keen much prefer ordinary shads. I,m with Cod crazey on what he says though.
