Tynemouth Pier 14/12/08

i fished my xmas fair match on the pier today, conditions were ideal, loads of colour in the water and nice big swells coming in. i managed to get a undersize codling and i weighed in a 2lb 3oz codling which earned me a nice bottle of whisky. i also lost a big fish, the bite was that big my rod nearly bounced off the tripod, when i picked it up the fish gave a solid bite so i struck into it and i had it, the rod had a massive bend in it but then it came off, the only thing i can think is it was only slightly hooked . the heaviest fish was a cod of 5lb 9oz's. dave haley the lad that runs the club lost a fish estimated at 13-14lb, his line snapped.
