headed up to tynemouth pier around 7.00pm last night, again i was fishing with wayne,we past a couple of lads on our way to the end but they had only managed a couple of whities but they hadnt been there that long.
once at the end i got set up just as you walk up the steps onto the drum and out went a nice mussel/runnydown/razor cocktail, wayne was casting in the same direction with rag and squid any way a couple of lads informed us that there are a lot of lobster pots with rope attached snagged to the bottem and on winding in two sets of gear where quickly lost
there were a few lads fishing off the end casting towards shields pier, they were pulling in plenty of whities on ragworm baits,we decided to try a couple of casts into the mouth of the river but this was becoming really uncomfortable with the wind into our faces and driving rain.
after a couple of more casts here i moved to below the steps casting paralel with tynemouth beach into more mixed ground.
fishing this way i had the wind behind me and was able to clear any ropes or ledges out there.
it was now just after high tide when i got a good knock resulting in a codling just short of the 2lb mark.on the next cast i hooked another fish but lost it after a few yards becoming stuck on a ledge out there.every cast i was pulling into what felt like either kelp or a ledge but i was able to pull thru it every time with no gear lost
wayne was now casting into the same ground and he had a couple of canny knocks that never came to nowt.
after another casts and a bite missed i got a really good bite and a slack liner, this resulted in a nice fish going just over 3.5lb,both of these had swallowed the bait meaning i could only cut off the hooks and retrieve them once they were gutted,i would of put them back if they werent so deeply hooked.on gutting them there stomacks were completly empty which surprised me after the recent seas weve had.
anyway a couple of more casts went out with another decent bite on my rod resuling in a tommy just over size which went back ok.
it was now midnight and we called it a night, the weather in the end had sorted itself out and it was a good session making a change from fishing the rock marks

Well done col fished the walkway from 6.30pm til 12.30am had nine codling sized biggest being exactly 3lb all fish falling to fresh yellowtails 7 fish taken 1 to 2 hrs after high water. and 2 before high water.

Did you get a chance to see what the water colour was like off the piers? i was thinking of coalie bashing and the odd mackerel before the winter really kicks in but not worth my drive if its dirty after the big seas last week.

cannot say what it was like at tynemouth as it was already too dark to tell when we got there but its still coloured at roker and havnt heard of any macky in quite a while now:)

If the fish is deep hooked & you don't want to keep it, just cut the line as close to the hook as you can. The fish will go back no problem & the hook will eventually rot away.

ive never been keen on that theory, anyway after dragging it in by its stomach and lifting it up the side of the pier the hooks had pierced its stomack and a couple of its organs by the looks of them so it was certain to die;)
