They are not hard to find mate, just have a wonder up and down some of your local beaches and look for casts and make a few test digs...
I'm not 100% sure but I was under the impression the only place in the NE digging is forbidden was Budle Bay...?
As prev said, you want the bigger spring tides and it is very hard work, especially this time of year as in the winter the worms burrow much deeper, I find it far cheaper to buy the worms than digging but thats when I combine my fuel costs with the length of my personal time.
Have you not seen people out digging when you are fishing?
I know many places I have seen getting dug regularly when I have been out fishing and I have not even tried them yet, but they obviously provide worm as you see diggers there every low tide!
The time you will put in to looking and finding worm beds will be minute compared to the time it will take you to dig them! (Unless you do it for a living, them guys can go!)
Also I hope your back is strong, otherwise your worms will be dead by the time you recover enough to get out fishing
