Hello All - Been a while since I was out with Volante Dave due to travelling a lot with work but, I managed to make it out on Sunday.

Left the dock at Sunderland at 9am in wonderful sunshine and glass like seas.

The plan was to try the wrecks between 3-8 mile. A previous trip a little over a week earlier for Dave in the 20-30mile range didn't prove too fruitful.

There were quite a few boats out on Sunday but, I guess theres lots of wrecks to choose from. The day was steady but not spectacular. We spent the whole day using Shads in an effort to avoid Mackerel and Ling which proved somewhat successful. 3 of us fished for 6 hrs producing around 25 Cod up to 9lbs with a few unavoidable Ling and strangely, Mackerel on large Shads... greedy sods..!! I have to say, Shads definitely pick out the better fish with no Cod under 5lb. All colours worked on the day as well. No trends like you usually find on any given day.

The fish seemed to come off only one or two wrecks to be honest. We think some of the larger wrecks are "overfished" as Dave says... "you see the same boats on the same wrecks day after day, week after week".

If anyone's wondering why we avoid Ling... no big secret and I'll tell you all before Dave does. Its because I cannot fillet fish to save my life and Dave hates to do them.... and lets face it, its rare you can return them alive after dragging them up from the depths. So there you go... after fishing for 29yrs, I still cannot clean a fish very well. However, I'm a dab hand at cleaning the boat..!!
