Walkway 19th April 2012

Well done craig, you can have a bit sport in the walkway this time of year, you can get cricket bat rubber from most sport shops for as few quid, cut it into inch wide strips and tape it onto your rod below the reel so you have to stretch it onto your spool this will help with any thumb slip.

will defo be trying this, when u let go of the rubber will it not get caught in the line as its goin out?

hi mate tape rubber to the bottom of reel seat when the reel spins it just thows it back no problem, if you are using a powerful rod it stops early release and stops leader knot cutting you thumb

like the other lads say it will be fine but if your worried still try doing some gentle casts until your satisfied matey:)
anything that will give a good grip of the spool will work:)
i like the cricket bat grip tip:D mite try that one meself:):)

When you tape the rubber on to the rod butt make sure it is at least 2 inches short of your spool so you have to stretch it to put your thumb over it on your spool, when you release your thumb the rubber will pull back well away from your line,i use this for field casting as well as fishing and it works
