hi all:)
just wanting some advice on weight choice for fishing the tyne:)
i normally fish the pottery bank area and have always used a 5oz gripper and from time to time a plain bomb but wonderd if you can go lighter and use different styles:confused: seen a few lads on hear using plain wedge weights from 3-4oz thats all:)
any advice would be most helpful:)
thanks ladds:D

5 oz grippers everytime for me when i do fish down there (old spillars factory), if there is very high/low tides the pull on the river is big, when the tides level out a bit you might be able to go for a lighter lead, the only bonus with a plain lead is you might find the fish as your rig/bait move across the river bed more freely,

good luck :)

Only fish the river on medium sized tides, 4.5m, and fish a few hours either side of high or low water. I use 6oz grip leads but 5oz is ok. On the bigger tides it pulls like a train and your lose gear hand over fist. You can fish the smaller tides but fish more towards the middle of the tide so you pick up some flow. Line diameter also comes into play. I fish with line between .35 and .40. Hope this helps.
