Croeso or Welcome as they say in Wales ;):D

Went down the Gower (near Swansea) for the second year running and and in between the bodyboarding and long walks I managed to shoe horn some fishing in :)

Fished at two spots really - Ramsgrove Bay which is directly down hill from the site (about 3/4 mile) and Mewslade Bay. Mewslade at high water is totally submerged but as the tide recedes it exposes an expanse of golden sand...

The view for our Cave for the week - I had to climb, swim and scramble to get the spot before anyone else did as you can see by the picture the tide is still quite a way in :D

Was only using my flattie rod so was fishing with 2oz running ledger onto a 1/0 hook...baits were usually frozen sandeel but on the last day I also used frozen macky...over the 4 or so days down at the beach I managed to pull out about half a dozen scrappy LSDs

The biggest was prob over 3lbs but the only couple I weighted were a tad smaller and one was a confirmed weight of 2lb 9ozs :)

Why doggies when so many people hate them? Well - coz they were there I suppose...I was winging out fish baits so if a Bass had fancied it and taken it I wouldn't have grumbled :D

As to Bass...

After a couple of fruitless nights down at Ramsgrove of spinning, float fishing etc I decided to resort to last years tactic of freelined sandeel...within half an hour I hooked into something...

A keepy and eaty Bass :D good little scrap too...I look forward to the day when I catch a bigger one and get an even better fight :D

That was it really with the fishing...no real chance to get off and do some "proper" fishing as I was after all on holiday with the missus ;):D

Here's to next year...

Mae fy hofrenfad yn llawn o lyswennod as they also say in Wales (google it;):D)

Looks like you had a good time Tony, doggies are better than nowt and a 3lber is a beaut, the british record is only 4lb 15oz 3dms. Well done on the bass too.

"my hovercraft is full of eels .... ????" lol

nice report mate , good to see your enjoying the hols, hope the better half is keeping you in check and keeping the fishing to a minimum .....

:) :) :)

Like I said in the other post - tried eating Dogfish but wasn't taken by it :o

Plus it's a complete fart on trying to remove the skin...anyone got any tips on that scale?

Had a bit search around, this one seems to be the trick:

1) Slice around the neck area just into the flesh, but not too deep.
2) Slice off the dorsal fin, anal fins and chop off the tail.
3) Cut off the belly flaps completely
4) Gently run a knife down the back from neck to tail stump and then from the vent to the tail stump on the under side.
5) Using a filleting knife cut a small nick in the skin at the top of the neck on one side.
6) Holding the head in your left hand, grab the nick of skin in your right and pull.
The whole side of skin will pull off pretty easily.
7) Repeat for the other side.

It would be much easier to show you Tony, they key is plenty salt on your fingers for a good grip. Being a fully qualified chef I could give you quite a few pointers on how best to cook the old 'Rock Salmon' as they are known.
