The whitby charter skippers summer festival started on monday and glenn stocks the main sponsor for the event booked my vessel sea-otter 2 for the first week of the competion they actually came up on saturday and also took the boat 2 days prior there was only 2 of them for the first 5 days till glenns mate geoff joioned them on wednesday but what a 5 days fishing they have had saturday and sunday they just fished with nothing but shads and had some cracking fishing we were working the wrecks on the 20 mile on saturday then the 12mile ground on sunday it litterally not stop action and the stamp of the fish was good with most of the cod between 4 to 8lb but on monday on the start on the festival we turned to the inshore wrecks and they proved to fish extremlly well my target was wrecks to the south of whitby the tides were bang on for these wrecks anything above a 5 mtr tide and its no the tide run down there is much stronger thasn it is of whitby you are only fishing 2 to 3 miles form the shore there are may wrecks littered all the way down to scarborough but as allways its knowing which ones to target the ones which do best are those of hayburn wyke they are times litterally stuffed with cod we arrived down of hayburn wyke about 10am after doing one or two pit stops then for glenn and richard it was non stop action many fish comeing up around the 7-10lb markthey had a whale of a time it was very good fishing we had 2 cracking days down there geoff joined glenn and richard on wednesday and once again i had a wreck in mind that if we were lucky we might click a 20lb plus cod off this wreck it is situated off the robin hoods bay its only 2.3 miles from the shore it is situatated amoung a pile of other wrecks but as allways there is one which can produce better fish and be more consitant than others richard and glenn had had some fanstic days but it was geoff who showed them how to get the bigger fish he had 3 double figure cod and 1 took the best daily prize just over 13lb but he also had numerous other fish between 5-10lb the lads went home on saturday and said in all the years they have been comeing to whitby it some of the best fishing they could remember they were knackered.
