i was just wondering what distance every one is casting when they fish of a beach for cod i cast roughly 120/130 yards (brighton style) and have no luck when fishing for cod what am i doing wrong any help much appreciated

p.s i am 14 years of age is 120/130 yards a good distance to be achiveing at this age with the brighton style

its not really about the distance you can cast but more about fishing in the rite conditions. Beaches are best hit on a dying sea. look for dark patches in and behind the surf, these are holes and gullies where the cod prefer to feed.
Its no good casting 120 yards onto a sandbar if the fish are feeding 50 yards out in a gully. Another thing to do is take a walk along the beach on a large low tide and look for holes and gullies which you can cast into at high water. Here is when a larger cast will com into play. Hope this helps. roppa

couldnt agree more with roppa.

going in the right conditions and finding the fish is the key, if ya go to the beach and sea is flat and clean even if ya cast 500 yards yal be lucky to get a cod.

the key to fishing beaches is finding the deeper water, gulleys, holes, where fish hold feeding, cast on a flat shallow sandy beach and again yal struggle to find cod.

BTW if your hitting 120-130 with bait ..... come and give me a few lessons.

if your 14 y.o danny moeskops better watch him self when you get older.

130 with bait is a good distance. and some people dont relise how far it is.

How much u charging for lessons?? At 14 hitting that distance u must have arms like hulk hogan

any need for the sarcasum lads i would appreciate it if u replyed like bigroppa (much appreciated roppa) i come on this site and made the thread for a bit of advise not sarcasum

Some places you need a long cast and others you dont ie a long cast to get over a reef or rough ground, short cast to hit a deep spot that could be very close in or 50 yards.
I think the lads were being sarcastic.

maybe a way forward is to join a local fishing club watch how the local succesful catch cod ask for advice at a good time not when they are busy.

cod fishing can be hit and miss a lot depends on conditions and bait casting a lg way is a good thing to have as it knowledge of your fishing marks.

My lads Pb on the field aged 14 was 179 -0-10 at a SSA event (and he was built like a pipe cleaner with no fluff on) which would give him 120 yds with 1 small bait , so it could be done .

White water , take the advice the lads are giving you , learn your venues and marks , join a local club , and use your distance when you need it not as the norm .

Very sound advise indeed.

Like the lads say its not about distance. I have been in comps when flatties 5yards out have scored more points caught on bass rods with braid.
Saying that i fished next to a lad a few years ago in a comp and he was pendulam casting and getting some real good distance and he must have hit a shoal of whity because he was bringing them in two at a time and everyone else-including me was blankig.
I am a strong caster due to my size and strength but struggle to get the distances some lads get.
Mick.

Distance not needed all the time but good to have the option. Personally I know when I've been chucking hard, after the sesh I've got muscle pain in both shoulders and across the lower back. I'm going through it now as fished shields pier the fu**in day.

or a pipe cleaner with no fluff on lol. good un that bob mate lol.

tbh the lads here are giving you really really good advice whitewater it DOES NOT matter how far you cast no good casting 130 yards when the fish are 40 yards from shore i know that for a fact cast a penn 525mag 2 with 30 lbs braid to the backing tonight not a thing tho for tourny casting keep it up
