What line is the best

I know everyone has their favourite but what line is considered to be really good, I want something about 15 to 18lbs for my light reals and something about 40lb for my heavy reals so I don't have to bother with a shock leader, I also want something that has a fairly thin line diameter, I have been using Teklon marine and it seemed good but the place I bought it from is having trouble getting it into stock, wonder if anyone else has info on a super duper line that's worth a try.

Don't mind spending the money if the line is worth it.

I think the Ultima F1 is one of the best lines I have used. Very thin and very strong too. I tried it in 35lb instead of my usual 30lb and had a lot of trouble getting it off the bottom when I got stuck :o. I personally wouldn't go past it. It seems to come off the reel nicely too whether it is the lighter or heavier line.

hi mate, been down the same road as you for years, tried them all even the teklon the line is not worth the money in my opion.in my opion you cannot beat berkley line, you can get the so called thin dia lines with higher breaking strains but you can still get a nick in a line it just does not warrent the cost as i say just my opion

Black F1 is v good , the new Hi Viz is crap.

I tend to buy line by diameter .40 -.45 on slosh 20s and 0.5 -.55 on slosh30s

equates to 18-25 and 30-40 depending on make.

Sakuma Nite Crystal or Sufix Tritanium has become my favourite brands for 12-20lb line for the lighter beach and pier work. For rough ground i use either 30lb Daiwa Sensor or Ultima Red Ice. Stay away from the low diameter high strength lines, i tried Grauvell Teklon and after a few sessions it snapped in places for no apparent reason.

Using Greylon at the minute, 35lb straight through, no problems so far.

Also like red ice.

Tried greylon myself. Found it to be very very soft, knots pulled out even on the 80lb. Found the knot strength to be poor. Also suffered from severe line burn when casting and not very abrasion resistant.

Think I will stick to trilene, F1 black,Penn boat line or sensor. Use sakuma or ultima for the field.

Have a spool of pink grauvell laser in 50lb bs that mics out at .6mm absolutely superb in the really heavy ground, has very little stretch and is very hard wearing. have had some on a 535 for well over a year and its been used lots at Arbroath, west coast and heavy ground in Northumberland.

For shocker I dont think you can beat the stuff Andy Rutherford sells for £5 a bulk spool, im positive its Ultima. The 60lb orange and 80 clear are great.

The review in Sea Angler says its ultima and after buying some im pretty sure it is Ultima Poweflex on a relabelled spool. As Ultima Powerflex is £3.49 for 50m and this stuff is £5.99 for 200m or on offer at 2 spools for £10 it is very good value.
