What rod

Just getting back into it and have been using an SK3 which is 'OK' but really only ideal for easier beach work and not the strong rod I would like to get through the week/kelp etc.

I'm ready to invest and upgrade to a new rod - would love some advice and things to consider/be wary of.

The Century Carbon Metal rod intrigues me but it appears to be 15ft and probably tough for me to handle from a casting perspective.

Any views please? Would likely to be using a Salster30 multiplier with it.

Is it the done thing still tobbuy blanks and get them made up to your own colours etc?

u can still buy blanks n customise them mate . the rod u choose must ur casting style. cant advise u any further . as ive never had a play with the carbon metal.

AFAW Tourny Match conoflex nemesis century kompressor ss century eliminator, too much to choose from really, There will be lots of different favourites but they won't suit everyone the best rod is the one that feels best for you at the end of the day :)

I used to have the Carbon Metal, cracking rod and you would be dissapointed in my opinion.

As mentioned, too many to mention really, try the 'for sale' section on here... lads are normally quite happy to allow you a chuck with the rod prior to buying.

The only Carbon Metal I know that is 15ft long is the BB (Blackbird) - not a rod for what you want. There are a few Carbon Metals in the range- the standard Carbon Metal, the Express & the Crest. For what you intend to use it for I'd say the Crest is the one you want. You can get the blanks from Century & have them built however you like. Plenty of other rods to choose from though - if you want blanks you could look at Conoflexes, Zziplexes or Harrison P3 (my personal favourite). Ready built you've also got Greys Apollos, Ron Thompson Axcellerator and many, many others.

Gary :)

I use a SKS paired with an OKUMA Distance Surf 60. I cant fault them suits my casting down to a tee. ( so I guess it all depends on what you really like ) :)

looking at various rods mentioned on web. I'm noticing the rods appear to have a reel seat and then a coaster on as well - what's the function of the coaster if reel secured to rod in the seat?
