What to buy for a day on a boat?

Off at the end of the month from Hartlepool, I've not boat fished before. Rods and reels we'll hire from the skipper but what end tackle should I try and get hold of beforehand? Feathers, muppets, rippers, pirks, leads, hooks? As I say it's just one day and I can't see me going out again (too much of a land lubber)

If I was you I'd just buy some cod day lights and maybe a packet of shads and obviously some weights

Talk to the skipper he may include it in a price for you , may be cheaper and easier if not planning on using again

You need sea sickness tablets. Try Stugeron or something similar-I take them all the time. Don,t drink night before either.
End gear - well muppets and daylights,shads from Boyes good enough. You can catch Mackeral when u go out and use as bait.
Its sometimes the people with the least gear and the least knowledge who do best so just go along,listen to skipper and have a good day.

I think its The Lady Grace, organised by a lad at work so unsure of what ground we'll be fishing, just know it's out of Hartlepool.
I was a kid last time i went out on a boat, home made chrome lead filled pirks and muppets were order of the day then. I think we fished for macky then used flappers as bait but it really was years ago. What weight leads will i need? I don't suppose 6oz grippers will suffice ha ha.

Haha, nope! We use 10 to 16oz. Dustybin near Hartlepool had great leads around 50% cheaper, at least, than shops.

Give the Skipper a ring, he may stock hokkis etc then you would only need to pay fpr what you use, rather than have lots left over if you think you won't use them again. Maybe a pack of 4 shads wouldn't go a miss either.

In Hartlepool at this time of the year, you will need 3 different tactics and for that I would reccommend:

Tactic one: Mackerels
All you need is a 6-8 ounce weight and daylights. You hardly ever lose tackle on mackerel fishing

Tactic 2: Shads
Depending on the tide, you will need a few 8-12 ounce boat leads, some mono, a few heavy snap swivels and maybe two packs of 4inch sidewinder shads (I would take 1 ghost white and one blue)

Tactic 3: Mackerel bait
If you like ling, use the same setup as in 2, only tie two 6/0 hooks to the end and use a large mackerel flapper.

Hokkais and other chrismas trees only lead to you getting tangled all the time with others, stay away.

Hartlepool skippers tend not to fish wrecks, they go to the rough grounds and drift over them. I quite enjoy that kind of fishing.

just to add to the good advice already given hartlepool skipper are just as likely to fish a wreck as those in any other port.
a lot depends on the the party,the weather and where has been producing

I'd def take some Hokkais and other Christmas tree things cos ya just never know...

I'd take at least 10 x 10-16oz sinkers, at least half a dozen pirks about the same weight with good strong trebles & split rings. Daylites, hokkais, shads etc as mentioned.

Don't forget to take some waterproofs no matter what the weather or forecast is like, and some sun cream.

Plenty to eat and drink.

A good sharp knife for chopping up mackerel for bait and cleaning your massive haul of fish Strong bags for carrying your haul off the boat.

A cloth and a spare one.

A camera so you can post some pics when give us a catch report.
