What's best

I have the mark 1 Apollo and the new Apollo Match.

The Mark 1 is second to none on the rock ends, but is very stiff.

I got the Apollo Match off my lovely missus for xmas and it's the dogs do da's...A great all rounder that is extremely responsive during casting, sensitive to even the smallest bites and considering all I was used to in the past with the mark 1 was an over head thump for fishing the rock marks, I put a sinker well over 150yards on a local field with an improvised pendulum.

Mk1 Apollo is the best without any shadow of a doubt. They are only two Greys Apollo's that are the best Greys produced, which is the Mk1 and the Mk3. I have the Apollo Mk3 14ft, and as my mate Stan (fishfingers) found out, they are very very good rods, loads of power, great casting potential and great bite sensitivity.

I've had a go of the new Mk4 apollo's (the ones that have a range now thaqt a do not like) and found the to be built even worse than the Mk2's and feel a bit different.

Scotty, I my opinion, get yourself a MK1 or MK3 Apollo, great rods, and stay well clear of Sonik SK3's, unless you get a Sonik SK4, they are ok.

ive got a apollo mk2 and it is spot on,never tryed a mk1 apollo, but as said earlier in a post steer clear of the sk3 mate only had mine a few month and got rid of it as it felt like it would crumble if you would put too much power into it,in my opinion it is/was the worst rod ive ever owned. but everyone to there own!!!!;)

Whats best

Whats best

My opinion is the Apollo mark 2 as apollo 1 is okay for pier fishing but thats all and the sk3 is well known for snapping near the tip okay :cool::cool:

dont understand why people dislike the sk3 i have one and it is casting weight of 4-6oz casted 8oz leads with pendulum otg and the standard over head thump and not had any issues. my sk3 got blew over few weeks back and smashed of the floor not a mark on it and still castsd like a dream.

in fact i was talking to bob collins regarding this and i cant remember if it was him or someone he knew was casting and tried to snap one on purpose and the rod would not snap.

i now have an sk4 14ft 5-7oz and the rod is capable of belting out a lead a long way, stiffer action than the sk3 and in my opinion both of them are very good rods.

my brother has a appollo mark 2 which are also really good.

that sk3 you sold me m8 is great, can cast it for miles and if you read my post its took a hammering and feels sturdy for me. but like you say everyone to their own.

hi mate, the sk3 rod was ok in the short time i had it,the problem was when i bought a century and just seemed to lose confidence in casting with the sk3,plus it slipped down the pecking order!!!!!;):D pleased you like it anyways mate,i hear the sk4 rods are canny too.

they are m8 just got 1 last week casting distance is excellent good a bit of grunt to it aswel when pulling out of snags etc. like them both.

why does someone wants to swap a mk1 for a mk2 obviously the mk1 is the better rod ..unless

Thats what a dont get, MK1 much better and is 'the Original' Apollo, A mint condition MK1 apollo will cost you more than what you pay for a brand new MK2 apollo thesedays (£100 brand new was the latest I heard for the MK2 apollo).
